The Mayson Group has been engaged to seek a senior chemist/ working group leader to oversee a small team focused on confirming durability of architectural coatings.  Already a major player in the space, our client is seeking a proven technical team leader that manages existing exposure programs but can collaborate with additional exposure sites, formulation groups, and improve how the data can be translated into additional sales.  This role will provide exposure to the broader North American technical organization and commercial organizations, offering advancement opportunities in both the technical organization and sales/ marketing. Our client is a global leader in the architectural coatings space, with a breadth and depth of capabilities to win in the market.

Key Focuses:

  • Leadership of technical staff focused on confirming architectural coating systems durability.
  • Project management to assure programs are completed per plan and customer satisfaction is assured.
  • Manage complexity of satisfying multiple customer requirements and multiple exposure sites exposure results.
  • Lead processes and testing protocols to attain industry leadership status.

Key Requirements:

  • BS/ MS technical degree.
  • Strong program management skills.
  • Depth in conducting architectural coatings durability testing, summarizing results, and presentation of results to external groups.
  • Architectural coating formulation experience highly desired.
  • Strong communication/ interpersonal skills focused on customer contact, presentations or durability results, and internal stakeholders including product development counterparts & commercial functions like marketing and sales.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%.

A major tier to the automotive industry with global HQ in the Detroit area is seeking strong project management skills on a short term basis.  With component / material simplification projects already defined and initiated, our client is seeking a Detroit based project manager to drive the projects to completion in 2017.

Focus of the role is driving the projects to completion, so the weekly hours, travel requirements and actual program duration are somewhat open.

Key requirements/ responsibilities include:
  • 6 – 9 months of work spread across 2017.
  • Limited amount of domestic travel.
  • Office in automotive HQ here in the Detroit area.
  • Maintain project timelines.
  • Communicate project status to key stakeholders.
  • Identify project shortfall risks, communicating risks to stakeholders, and offering mitigation steps.
  • 1099 employment status.

A market leader offering high value, waterborne exterior coatings and coatings systems for both commercial and residential end uses, our client creates success based upon an innovative offering and strong support to the applicators / market. Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead group of chemists (including advanced degrees), engineers, and lab technicians focused on the development and application of durable, high performance waterbased coatings and polymer systems for both residential and commercial exterior end uses.
  • Oversee technical support to the manufacturing organization including raw material qualification and resolution of customer complaints.
  • Join and contribute to a youthful business leadership team which includes peers in sales, marketing, and manufacturing.
  • Oversee technical support for the development of product marketing and training materials.
  • Lead development of next generation systems to maintain market leadership position.


Key requirements include:

  • Proven technical group leader experience from a coatings or durable polymers (sealants, adhesives, or plastics) manufacturer.
  • Track record of managing performance and technical leadership.
  • Formulation experiences in 100% waterborne systems – acrylic/styrene/vinyl coatings or emulsion adhesives.
  • Advanced technical degree with structure-property skill set is highly desired.
  • Ability to work across the disciplines of adhesion, durability, polymer science and functionality of coatings.

Senior Scientist (3D Photo Polymer Printing)

 

The Mayson Group has been exclusively engaged by a global polymer company to seek a senior scientist who will lead technical efforts as they expand into additive manufacturing/ Stereolithography/ 3D Printing. With a technical degree and +2 years experience formulating resins for 3D printing, the scientist in conjunction with a global team of scientists will lead facilitation and staffing of a new laboratory close to a major external partner. It’s uniquely an entrepreneurial opportunity within the domain of a well established player in adjacent spaces.

Key Focuses:

  • Lead equipment installation and lab facilitation on a partner’s site in support of additives manufacturing and formulation.
  • Support staff expansion as facilities are expanded and additional projects are assigned to group.
  • Develop key test protocols and procedures required to support the development of additive manufacturing materials.
  • Network with the internal national and global additives team focused on formulation and manufacture of additives.
  • Manage product safety/ regulatory requirement programs.

Requirements:

  • MS (PhD) preferred in Chemistry, Material Science, Polymer Science, or ChE and +2 years relevant formulation experience in Stereolithography systems.
  • Entrepreneurial in nature, able to handle a broad range of tasks in a small global team.
  • Structure-property skill set for polymers, additives, and fillers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with customers, internal partners and university groups.
  • Ability to handle a 20% travel load, including both domestic and international.
  • US Citizenship or permanent residency.

  • Formulate next generation primers and topcoats for performance improvements and conformance to evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Develop formulation guidelines, and hand off know how to scale up / manufacturing groups.
  • Document product performance to confirm new products meet or exceed industry standards.

 

Key requirements include:

  • Adept formulation skills focused on film properties, durability, and application robustness.
  • Advanced technical degree with structure – property skill set. BS level formulators with strong structure – property skills may be viable.
  • Formulation experience in waterborne coatings.
  • Understanding of waterborne, solventborne and reactive chemistries.
  • Experience formulating polyurethane and epoxy chemistries.
  • Group Leader role – people management experience NOT a must (although desired), but project management IS a must!
  • Ability to work in a team environment, in a professional development focused organization.
  • Robust product development skills including DOE and Six Sigma.
  • Formulation skills focus on cure reactions is highly desired.
  • Formulation skills associated with flake control is also desired.
